Message from Chief
Columbik
I would like to welcome you to the
MCPD section of the official City of Miles City website. Here you will discover
information regarding the variety of services offered by our department. Please take a
moment to familiarize yourself with the site and learn about the Miles City officers that
serve our great community.
Located in southeastern Montana,
Miles City is viewed as the last best little "big" town in Montana that has not
been changed like the cities further west. The Miles City area is famous for its big game
hunting and fishing. Thousands of sportsmen travel to Miles City in pursuit of trophy
class mule deer, elk, whitetail, antelope, bird hunting and fishing on the Yellowstone and
Tongue Rivers. Many of our officers take advantage of the tremendous outdoor opportunities
that exist here and feel privileged to live in such a place. Our officers take pride in
the community partnership that has been createdin our town. They work on building trust
and respect within Miles City.
Our police department is only as
good as the eyes and ears within the city that keep us informed of problems that exist.
Besides the great community relationship that we have, we are also proud of our COPS
(Citizens Offering Police Support) program. These retired citizens volunteer many hours of
their own time patrolling neighborhoods and keeping us informed of any problems using
their police radios. They have proven to be a very special asset to our department in
spotting suspicious activity as well as assisting in major crime scene traffic control.
We're also fortunate to have an excellent relationship with the Custer County Sheriff's
office. Differences are put aside as we focus on our common goal of serving our community.
Many cases are investigated and brought to prosecution as a result of working as a team to
make Miles City a safer place to live and raise children.
It is a great honor for me to serve
as the chief of police for Montana's best little "big" town. Thank you for
taking the time to visit us at the Miles City Police Department. I welcome your comments
and suggestions and, if at any time, you wish to provide us with any information please do
not hesitate to call us at 406.234.6273.
